Happy original long form American birthday President Obama!

Upon the anniversary of the President’s birth, I would like to share an archived video of that occasion:

Whenever I see the latest outrageous birther claim I feel glee because 1) those morons ain’t on my side and 2) I feel not one pang of guilt in calling them morons.

So it is that today I wish President Barack Obama a happy 51st birthday and make note of recent birther news.

The fast-talking announcer in this new campaign rolled out by the Conservative Majority Fund says “no one — I mean no one — has seen an actual physical copy of Barack Obama’s birth certificate.” [Oh wait! What is this right HERE?!]

Then there’s Representative Steve King of Iowa who said in a July tele-townhall that perhaps a telegram from Kenya was sent to both Hawaiian newspapers that announced Obama’s birth. Sure that’s a far-fetched notion to hang your tinfoil hat on and Rep. King acknowledges that with, “It would have been awfully hard to fraudulently file the birth notice of Barack Obama being born in Hawaii and get that into our public libraries and that microfiche they keep of all the newspapers published.” But still, King sticks with his story. It could have happened.

(People of the 5th District of Iowa, you have my pity.)

Iowa may have Rep. King but Arizona has border vigilantes and Sheriff Joe Arpaio. Arpaio and his posse proclaimed in mid-July that they had conclusive proof that President Obama’s birth certificate is indeed FAKE.

I should note that while some news sources call Arpaio’s followers his “posse” others call them “volunteer investigators”. Technically they are the “MCSO Cold Case Posse”.

Proving that the liberal media isn’t really liberal (or even firing on all cylinders), I see not one report that calls the posse “village idiots” although Salon writer Alex Pareene did once call them “goons”.

I’m sure their focus on Obama’s birth certificate at that time had absolutely zero to do with getting press attention away from the start of a class action federal civil rights case against Arpaio that kicked off July 20th nor did it have anything to do with distracting from a federal lawsuit brought against him by DOJ in May.

Arpaio announced July 18:
“My investigators believe that the long-form birth certificate was manufactured electronically and that it did not originate in a paper format as claimed by the White House.”

The State of Hawaii sent a letter by email to AZ Sec. of State Ken Bennett (after Bennett was forced to prove that he had a legitimate need for that information) to say “President Obama was born in Honolulu, and his birth certificate is valid”.

To which Arpaio responded, “I don’t know why it’s a big secret…Why is just a letter coming out and saying, ‘Yes, we say that he was born there’? Show us the proof.”

It’s a bit odd that Arpaio still hungers for “proof” given that he sent 2 deputies from his “threats unit” to Hawaii to get the goods in May. Arpaio also has the aid of Jerome Corsi whose claim to fame is the “North American Union”conspiracy which alleges that “the Bush administration has collaborated with the governments of Mexico and Canada to merge the three nations into one Socialist mega-state”.

There was so much far-fetched stuff turned up during the research for this post that I couldn’t include it all but I will add just 1 more tidbit: Corsi asserts that he gained a “Ph.D. in political science from Harvard University in 1972″.

I’ll believe that when I see a copy of his long form diploma.
