Update: Platteville hearing is cancelled but there is instead a a public hearing on the Assembly mining bill, AB 426, on Friday Feb. 17 at 10 AM in the Capitol room 412 East, Madison Wisconsin.
Updated information is in Assembly mining bill will be tough sell in Senate : “State Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald dissolved a special mining committee Wednesday saying that the Senate should instead pass a controversial Assembly bill that would make it easier to construct a $1.5 billion iron mine in northern Wisconsin.
Fitzgerald’s move halts the work of the Senate Select Committee on Mining Jobs in mid-stream and reflects his and other Republicans’ displeasure with a version of the mine permit legislation that was unveiled Monday by the committee, chaired by State Sen. Neal Kedzie, R-Elkhorn. A hearing on that version of the bill scheduled for Friday in Platteville has been canceled.”
Madison protest info from Carl Sack of Madison: “The previously scheduled Platteville hearing has been cancelled. We are asking everyone who can come to meet in the Capitol Rotunda at 9:30 AM. Please bring a jar of water. This is not a rally, and it’s nothing illegal or dangerous. You’ll find out more when you get there. Whether or not you can make it in the morning, come to the Rotunda again at 1:00 PM for a different action.”
