Will Scott Walker have to take the stand when Kevin Kavanaugh goes to trial? Kevin Kavanaugh is fighting charges that he embezzled funds while working for Scott Walker in Milwaukee County. On January 30th we’ll likely learn when Kavanaugh’s trial date will be.
From the Fox6 web site:
“A former Milwaukee County official appointed by Gov. Scott Walker while he was county executive is pleading not guilty to theft and fraud charges.
Kevin Kavanaugh is accused of stealing $42,000 from veterans and their families.
According to online court records, he also waived his preliminary hearing and was bound over for trial Friday. A scheduling conference was set for Jan. 30.”
Kavanaugh is currently charged with 5 felonies for theft and fraudulent writings by a corporate officer. He’s accused of taking $42,232.05 from the Milwaukee Order of the Purple Heart. Kavanaugh’s suspected crimes came to light due to an investigation of how “Operation Freedom” was funded. Operation Freedom was an appreciation day for veterans and their families at the Milwaukee Zoo which was operated by Scott Walker’s office.
According to Daniel Bice of M.J. Sentinel: “The financing setup for the event drew ethics scrutiny in 2006, when two county Ethics Board members questioned the practice of county officials asking private companies for money for public programs, saying it raised conflict-of-interest questions.”
Walker said his chief of staff, Tom Nardelli, “with my support” originally asked the Milwaukee County District Attorney to investigate questionable use of Milwaukee Order of the Purple Heart funds.
