Congrats La Crosse!
The president of the La Crosse city council soundly defeated a Tea Party effort to recall her.
I read this note from Charley W.
“For those outside of La Crosse ….. the local teabaggers, managed to get a recall election of our City Council President. Their allegations and rhetoric were outrageous (she just received the local ecumenical award for public service) and their petition questionable. A perennial candidate also jumped into the race, forcing a primary.”
From the LaCrosse Tribune piece Kader wins in landslide:
“While he tried to explain Kader represents “bigger government … raising taxes, raising budgets,” that obviously didn’t resonate enough, Gundersen said.”
Audrey Kader won with 74% of the amazingly small number of votes cast. Kader got 196 votes, contractor Jerome Gunderson Jr. got 42, and Viterbo University student Gage Maurer got 26 votes. It was Gage Maurer who was backed by the Restore La Crosse Committee.
Side note – the La Crosse mayor is 24 years young and has the aroma of Tea Party about him.
His wikipedia page suggests that his dad probably helped him fund the campaign so he could route city waste work to his disposal business. There’s also info in there about a sexy calendar scandal and a leaked plan to make all the fire fighters be volunteer which naturally riled the unions. He announced late last year he will not run for office again.
Second side note:
While their politics may be questionable, I have to admit that somebody over at the Restore La Crosse Committee knows how to do a funny Hitler video.
