Soledad, please ask Sheriff David Clarke about . . .

Update 2: Sheriff Clarke also appeared on Piers Morgan’s show – along with Tom Barrett – where Clarke got pushed a harder.

Update 1: Here’s a link to a brief segment from Soledad’s show.  Looks like she went very easy on him. How disappointing.

I hear that Milwaukee County Sheriff David “Got Guns?” Clarke was on Soledad O’Brien’s show today sometime between 6AM and 8 AM Central Time. [I’ll be sure to get the archived video on this post when it shows.]

Soledad doesn’t consult with me before she pulls together these shows (damn it) but here’s what I’d ask Sheriff Clarke:

Should Milwaukee County citizens also assume they need to guard visiting dignitaries like the President? Such as when Clarke refused to assist with Obama’s February 2012 visit to Milwaukee claiming budget cuts prevented him?  (Naturally his officers were available for Mitt Romney’s visit.)

Since when are Milwaukee *County* cops running interference with “violent” criminals anyway? It looks to me like Sheriff Clarke’s staff are usually catching drunk drivers and running two jails.  It’s the municipal cops and campus police that are commonly encountering violent offenders – not county cops.

Is Sheriff Clarke going to go all the way and tell us he can ignore the federal government – like the sheriffs on Richard Mack’s list?

What does he think should be done about this situation?:  89% of all homicide victims in Milwaukee are African-American men between ages 11 and 39   As in, does he think this problem will be solved by more guns?  Does he think about this at all?

In case you missed it, here’s what Clarke said in a recent radio ad paid for by Milwaukee County funds:

“I’m Sheriff David Clarke and I want to talk to you about something personal.
“Your Safety.
“It’s no longer a spectator sport. I need you in the game. But are you ready?
“With officers laid off and furloughed, simply calling 911 and waiting is no longer your best option.
“You could beg for mercy from a violent criminal, hide under the bed, or you can fight back. But are you prepared?”
“Consider taking a certified safety course in handling a firearm so you can defend yourself until WE get there.
“You have a duty to protect yourself and your family.
“We’re partners now. Can I count on you?” link to the audio
