What David Frum said about Punditry and the GOP

I found David Frum’s comments on Morning Joe courtesy of reddit and Digby’s blog.

Watching Frum say these things with his privileged pals in punditry is arresting. I’m less shocked that he called out the “conservative entertainment complex” and more stunned that he let his peers at the table know they share blame with the GOP for not touching reality in America with a 10 foot pole.

Frum is a former speechwriter for George Bush Junior. It may seem like he’s seeing the light but keep in mind Frum also thinks Mitt Romney would’ve made a very good president.

The People on Television Don’t Care About Reality:
“…it is maybe a symptom of a broader problem, not just the Republican problem, that the economic anxieties of so many Americans are just not part of the national discussion at all. I mean, we have not yet emerged from the greatest national catastrophe, the greatest economic catastrophe since the Great Depression. And what are we talking about? The deficit and the debt. And these are important problems, but they’re a lot easier to worry about if you are wealthier than you were in 2008, which most of the people on television now are again, if you are securely employed, which most of the people on television now are. But that’s not true for 80% of America.”

The Apocalyptic GOP Base :
“The real locus of the problem is the Republican activist base and the Republican donor base. They went apocalyptic over the past four years. And that was exploited by a lot of people in the conservative world. I won’t soon forget the lupine smile that played over the head of a major conservative institution when he told me that our donors think the apocalypse has arrived. Republicans have been fleeced and exploited and lied to by a conservative entertainment complex”

About 15 minutes:

Frum is selling an ebook called Why Romney Lost for $3.99 on amazon and $4.99 through iTunes.

[Sidenote - It's fascinating to me that apple minions consistently pay more for everything.]
